Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a colorful mix of heroes, and a gripping narrative showcasing celestial beings, fiends, and malevolent powers growing in strength within the city.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season are included.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
The latest chapter finished on a major cliffhanger and introduced the premier party of adventurers who will branch out from the central cast to undertake their separate journey, apart from the additional parties.
This warrior group includes the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
Given 13 cast members, it was evident from the outset that having everyone at one table would be impossible.
This explains, the initial installments of this story serve as an Introduction, weaving together the individual narratives before branching into three smaller tables: Warriors, Strategists, and Explorers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
According to the DM, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who prefer a typically action-packed fight-heavy gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are rare.
Initially, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might seem out of place, but the actions of the third episode demonstrate why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the warrior group.
Reasons to Leave
To begin with, the team has a clear idea where to go next after a intense opening clash with the enemy group.
A former ally of the deceased character—whose passing initiated the narrative’s action—used the enemy for his own means, entering the hidden lair, attacking Thimble, and taking all the magical artifacts to auction.
The traitor then paid off his obligations and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.
Character Drivers
Secondly, each member has a personal reason to depart the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as the companion and closest confidant, desires revenge.
- The knowledgeable figure is familiar with Timmony and cautions that it is a dangerous place.
- The warrior and The healer, having defied his house’s orders to execute the target and instead saved him, have no other options.
- However, their position as important members in the influential clan could help the party reach locations they normally couldn’t.
- Additionally, Teor swore a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his salvation and will now go with him everywhere.
Fugitives
Finally, all of them are wanted by the authorities that control the setting for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally dangerous:
- The rogue and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- The strong figure and The cleric turned against the influential house and the legion of demons they are allied with.
- The target is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.
This results in them no alternative but to journey toward the northern region in pursuit of the antagonist.
What’s Next?
Based on episode three’s post-show segment, we learn that the combat party won’t be around next week, leaving the remaining eight players to form the Explorers and Strategists tables.
Viewers can anticipate learning which players will be in which group in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
