"A household located in the northern part of London is looking for an exceptional and experienced educator to assist their youngest child on his initial journey to becoming an British gentleman."
When reading this advertisement, you might easily miss the wording "beginning" as just figurative language.
But, it could be the most significant part of this unique position posting, as it seeks to hire a teacher for a infant.
Hundreds of responses have since been received since the anonymous family advertised their request for the highly paid tutor, who must be "an exceptional individual".
In recent few weeks, the advert has attracted attention throughout the press, with numerous asking why?
Innovative Idea
The CEO, head and founder of Tutors International, which is supporting the family in their quest, explained that in spite of initial skepticism, he viewed the plan "far sighted", and "progressive".
When he consulted the family, he noted they understood the atypical character of their request, and how early in age their son is.
However, they stated that they "preferred not to postpone any longer" to hire a tutor, as they had waited until their older child was five, and by that point "cultural influence had already become established".
But what did the family indicate by "cultural predisposition"?
It's "comprehensive", the expert responded. "The way you eat, how you speak".
He stated the elder child had adopted "really subtle, body language" from the family, and had taken on their cultural habits. The family informed him they hoped to prevent history to happen again with their younger child.
The plan: To hire a British tutor, who needs to speak with standard English accent, to guide the baby from day one.
Subtle Influence
"A lot of the education at the beginning here is rather acquired indirectly," said Adam.
It's by means of this subtle influence that the family are aiming the child will acquire the British traits they wish to cultivate.
Adam explained the tutor needed to be somebody who studied at "prestigious academies – comparable categories of schools as the family aspire to send their son to".
"The instructor just has to be the appropriate candidate, they'll be performing things they aren't even aware they're doing, effortlessly," he said.
Cost Not Relevant
The family told Adam the chosen tutor should preferably also have understanding of or interest in riding, alpine skiing, creative fields and music so as to inspire the child in a broad spectrum of passions.
More than that though, he explained the family wanted the tutor to register the child on a selection of lessons so the child would be "pony-riding and learning an instrument by the time they are approximately three years old".
In the family's minds, assisting their son become a "English gentleman" will lead to success and open doors.
"Considering the pros and cons of that, because it's definitely a status symbol," he comments.
However, in spite of all this tutelage in "UK identity", could the child pick up so-called cultural leaning from the international family he is raised by anyway?
"Certainly", replied he. "The parents know this may not work, but they've simply adopted the view of, 'let's give it a go and we should start as soon as we can', because the price of it is not a concern," he explained.
Overly Optimistic
There are some in the tutoring industry who express those doubts.
An education leader, chief executive of an educational organization, who provides personal educators, stated that "the journey of embracing two identities, or indeed, discovering oneself, is something that must be lived into, not manufactured."
He explained that he had relocated from China to the UK at the period of 7 years old, and had been raised knowing and embodying both cultures. He went on to study at the University of Cambridge.
"The idea that a single person can act as a living vessel of UK identity, a person who can somehow transplant the characteristics of a UK sophisticate upon a 12-month-old child, strikes me as naive and impractical," he stated.
"Based on my background, employing a distinctly UK tutor from early childhood will will not instantly achieve the result they want.
"I wasn't provided with that kind of mentor, and nevertheless I have been lucky enough to experience several of the opportunities they desire for their son."
He stated: "The reality is, self-identity can not be forced from the outside; it must be chosen, and it must be internally driven."
Purchasing UK Culture
Certainly, UK identity is something the CEO hopes can be instructed – and commercialized.
"I think the situation that the global community views us in this respect is something that we should be cherishing|valuing|appreciating
